Pre-roll cone sizes explained: 84/26 vs 98/26 vs 109/26
Updated · SeshSure
Short answer: the first number is the cone's total length in millimeters, the second is the filter length. 84/26 holds about half a gram, 98/26 about a gram, 109/26 about 1–1.2 g. Pick by fill weight first, then by machine.
What the numbers mean
A "98/26" cone is 98 mm from tip to open end, with a 26 mm paper filter rolled into the mouth end. Subtract the filter and you have 72 mm of fillable cone. The filter length matters more than it looks: it sets the draw, it sets how the cone seats in a filling tray, and it decides how much of the cone is product versus paper.
How much each size holds
| Size | Length | Filter | Typical fill | Common name |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 84/26 | 84 mm | 26 mm | ~0.5 g | Half-gram, 1¼ |
| 98/26 | 98 mm | 26 mm | 0.75–1 g | 1-gram, reefer |
| 109/26 | 109 mm | 26 mm | 1–1.2 g | King |
Fill weights move with grind size, moisture content, and pack density. A fine grind packed firm in a 98/26 can take a full gram; a coarse, fluffy grind might top out at 0.75 g. Test with your own flower before you set the SKU weight.
Which size for which SKU
- Multi-packs and minis: 84/26. Consistent, trays well, and consumers expect it.
- Flagship singles: 98/26. The default for a reason — shelves, tubes, and machines are built around it.
- Infused and premium: 109/26. Extra length handles added mass and justifies the price point. Pair with a glass tip for top shelf.
Which size for which machine
Most automated fillers are tuned for 98/26 and 109/26 geometry out of the box. If you run automation, the length tolerance and paper weight matter more than the nominal size — see cones for pre-roll machines.
When to go custom
If your target fill weight doesn't land in a standard size, or your machine needs a specific taper or filter length, a custom spec is usually cheaper than fighting a standard cone. Tell us the target; we spec it.
